Major Employers

Private Sector Employers

Huntsville is the largest and fastest growing community in the District of Muskoka. It is the primary urban area and centre for business and commerce for several smaller communities. Over 1,400 businesses are located within Huntsville communities, over half of which employ 1 to 4 people ( Info Canada , 2003 ).

Automotive, plastic, paper, and wood product manufacturers are among the top ten private sector employers. The service industry is also a major employer, heavily influenced by tourism. Employment figures in the tourism sector increase significantly during the summer season, literally doubling for several resorts, retail, outdoor-related businesses, and Government Agencies.

Growth in the Small Home Office sector is also on the increase as more and more people choose to work from home and/or telecommute from their cottage.
