Bronze Star Award is excellent preparation for success
in the Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion Program.
Bronze Star training emphasizes swimming skills
and lifesaving fitness. Participants develop problem-solving
and decision making skills individually and in partners.
They will learn how to keep a cool head and take
charge in an emergency situation.

Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid
First step to becoming a Lifeguard
Develop
physical fitness, decision making and judgement skills.
Learn tows, carries and release methods in preparation
for challenging rescues of increased risk and develop
stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim.
Pre-requisites: 13 years of age by the exam date.
Participants should have completed Red Cross Aquaquest
12/Swim Kids 10. Participants are examined
by a Lifesaving Examiner on the last day of the course.

Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross
Second step
to becoming a Lifeguard
Students
will learn the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding.
An introduction to safe supervision in aquatic
facilities, emergency procedures, teamwork in rescues,
use of special equipment and spinal injuries. Prerequisites:
14 years of age or older, Senior resuscitation
or Emergency First aid & bronze medallion. Bronze
Medallion Award does not have to be current to enroll
in this program. Bring your Bronze Medallion and
Emergency First Aid card and show it to the instructor
on the first day of class.

Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Re-certification
Every
two years candidates must re-certify this award.
(Unless you have your NLS) Bring your Bronze Cross
card to show the instructor on the first day of class.
Participants must pre-register. All instructor evaluated
items must be checked off in order to come to the exam.
You can come to as many classes as you want. We
suggest 4 or 5 classes. Cost:

National Lifeguard
Certification (NLS) & Standard First Aid
Last step to
becoming a certified Lifeguard - 40 hour course
This
is the only nationally recognized lifeguard training program.
The course consists of core material plus material
specific to the pool environment. Emphasis is placed
on prevention, teamwork, leadership and communication.
Prerequisites: 16 years of age & successful
completion of Bronze Cross. Your bronze cross award
does not have to be current to take this program.
Please bring your Bronze Cross card to show the instructor
on the first day. 100% attendance required.

Lifesaving Society NLS Re-certification
Every two years lifeguards require to re-cert their qualification. If you are planning to lifeguard at a camp, pool or waterfront don't wait to recert your qualifications. There is no leeway given to Lifeguards on their certification the day you expire is the day you are no longer certified. Please remember to bring your old certification card to show to the NLS examiner.

Although this first aid recertification course is open to anyone, it is especially designed for those participants who are also recertifying their NLS.

Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructor (AWSI) with High Five
30 hour program (+8 hour teaching experience) for ages 15+
This certification course is a prerequisite to the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course. The course covers the foundation of instructional skills including teaching methods, learning methods, learning styles, physical principles, progressions, communication, safety supervision and feedback. Candidates are evaluated during 8 hours of assistant teaching and through individual study assignments. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are certifed as Assistant Water Safety Instructors, which enables them to co-teach the Red Cross Swim programs under the supervision of a fully certified Water Safety Instructor. Once certified, Assistant Water safety Instructors have two years to become Water Safety Instructors. 100% attendance required.

Red Cross & Lifesaving Society Water Safety Instructor
Last Step to becoming
a qualified Instructor
50 hour prgram (+12 hour teaching experience) for ages 16 years of age and up.
The Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course further develops instructional ability by focusing on how to effectively plan and teach the Red Cross Swim continuum: Red Cross Swim Preschool, Red Cross Swim Kids, Aqua Adults Program. Lifesaving Society Bronze Star, Bronze Med, Bronze Cross, Rookie, Ranger, Star Patrol and Learn to swim programs. The course focuses on how to effectively apply the information learned in the Assistant Water Safety Instructor development, drills and corrective strategies. Candidates apply their teaching skills and knowledge furing 12 hours of practical teaching experience. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are certified as Water safety Instructors. To remain valid, Water Safety Instructor status must be recertified every two years.
