Cemeteries
Care and administration of Town owned operational cemeteries and cemeteries that the Cemeteries Regulation Unit, Ministry of Government Services has declared abandoned is the responsibility of the Town of Huntsville. For a list of Abandoned Cemeteries that have been taken over, click here.
Purchase of graves and niches is administered through the Community Services Department for Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery. Interment rights information and burial records for Town of Huntsville's main cemetery "Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery" are kept on file and are maintained by the Community Services Department.
In Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery there are options to choose from for burials, as noted below:

Adult Grave - 3 feet by 10 feet - 1 Full Internment.

Cremation Grave - 2 feet by 4 feet - Holds 2 Urns of cremated remains.

Cremation Grave with a Lawn Niche - Holds 2 Urns of cremated remains.

Columbarium - Niche - holds 2 Urns of cremated remains.
What is a Columbarium?
The land for Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery was donated by the Hutcheson Family back in 1935. The land given to the Town consisted of nine (9) acres. An additional 13 acres directly behind the cemetery was purchased in 1989 for future expansion.
On September 7, 2004, Council passed By-law 2004-90, "A by-law to Provide for Rules and Regulations for the Care and Control of all Municipal Cemeteries owned by the Town", of which was approved by the Registrar at the Cemeteries Regulation Unit. Schedule "A" - Tariff of Fees - to this by-law has been amended by By-law No. 2008-38.
