Council Post-Meeting Highlights – March 24, 2025

This month, Council heard on a variety of topics including physician recruitment and the Muskoka Tariff Response.

Invited and Ceremonial Presentations included:

  • The Huntsville High School Junior Girls Nordic Ski Team were presented with certificates of recognition for their achievements at the OFSAA Nordic competition.

Staff reports included requests for Council to:

  • Approve the Heritage Permit Application for the Purser’s Cabin at Muskoka Heritage Place
  • OUTCOME: Council approved the permit application.

General Information Updates included:

  • Council received an update on the physician recruitment initiative.
  • UPDATE: Five physicians have committed to serving our community for the next five years
  • Council approved a community flag raising in recognition of Ontario Autism – World Autism Day on April 2, 2025.

New Business included:

  • Council discussed the US Tariff situation and received a verbal update on the Muskoka Tariff Response.
  • OUTCOME: Council discussed community requests to remove the US flag from Town facilities and decided that, based on the conversation that unfolded, that the US flag will remain at Town facilities, including Flag Park. Council remains open to further discussion of the issue should circumstances change.
  • OUTCOME: Council approved a change to the Flag Protocol Policy, requiring Council approval for any removal of flags from Town facilities.
  • OUTCOME: Council approved a "Canada-preferred" approach to the Town's procurement policy.
