We are looking for the following positions to complement our Operations Division:

  • Mechanic

Reporting to the Yard/Fleet Administrator the Mechanic is responsible for conducting mechanical maintenance and repairs on Town owned vehicles and equipment including welding and hydraulic repairs, and for overseeing and scheduling vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs. This position will require the successful candidate to work both independently and as an integral part of a team making appropriate decisions based on general guidance. Furthermore, participation in all aspects of operations including physical labour will be expected.

The candidate will have successful completion of a Secondary School Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid Ontario Truck and Coach Service Technician Certificate (310T) and Automotive Service Technician Certificate (310S) is mandatory with a minimum of four (4) years of related experience including experience with diesel powered equipment.

A sound knowledge of vehicle and truck maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, basic welding and fabrication procedures, and the operation of a mechanic’s shop is expected. 421A Heavy Equipment Technician License, Emergency Vehicle Technician License, and small engine experience would also be an asset.

The ability to operate Town owned equipment for testing purposes is required. Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” driver’s license is mandatory. Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Class “D-Z” or Class “A-Z” driver’s license is preferred.

This position is a member of the Local Union 636 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

The starting hourly rate for this position is $36.19 and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
