NOTICE OF STATUTORY PUBLIC MEETING

REGARDING THE PAIRING OF HUNTSVILLE WARD AND CHAFFEY WARD FOR

ELECTORAL REPRESENTATION PURPOSES

 

TAKE NOTICE that the Town of Huntsville is holding a public meeting on October 28, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the Huntsville Civic Centre, Municipal Council Chambers to discuss the proposed change in council composition to allow for the pairing of Huntsville Ward and Chaffey Ward for electoral representation purposes.

 

Town of Huntsville Council is comprised of the mayor and 8 councillors for a total of 9 and are elected through a hybrid ward system with the mayor and 3 positions elected at large, and 5 positions elected by ward.

 

The public meeting is an opportunity for the public to review and provide comments on the proposed Council Composition By-law, as required under the Town’s Public Notice Policy.

 

The proposed change would combine the offices of Huntsville Ward and Chaffey Ward with two representatives allocated to the combined office.

The proposed Composition of Council By-law will not be considered by Council at this meeting. The by-law will be considered by Council at a future meeting, after considering comments received as part of the public meeting and the consultation process.

 

Report CORP-2024-39 – Composition of Municipal Council – Pairing of Huntsville and Chaffey Wards was presented to Council on September 9, 2024, and made available on the Town’s website on September 5, 2024.

 

Any person may provide comments either in support of, or in opposition to, the proposed by-law.
