SMDHU Public Notice: Swimming Advisory at Port Sydney Beach - July 23, 2024

UPDATE: Please be advised that The Safe Water Department of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has lifted the Swimming Advisory at Port Sydney Beach originally issued on July 23rd, 2024. For updates on current local beach advisories please visit the health unit website.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit would like to inform residents and visitors to the Town of Huntsville that testing has indicated that E. coli bacteria levels exceed the recreational water quality guidelines at the Port Sydney Beach and a Swimming Advisory has been posted.

According to the health unit, during a swimming advisory, the beach is posted with warning signs indicating that the most recent water samples showed bacteria in numbers that may increase your risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections or stomach illness. If you choose to swim during a swimming advisory, avoid dunking your head or swallowing the water.

SMDHU and the MECP will continue to monitor the beach and updates will be shared as they are made available.
